1. What the Darien Reference Provides
Darien Residents Directory is a privately operated reference service. It describes public-record routes, indexes, and directory collections that may relate to people, addresses, parcels, events, and local history in Darien, Connecticut.
Darien is a Connecticut town, and Fairfield County has no active county government or county clerk or recorder. Local and statewide custodians include the Darien Town Clerk, Assessor, Registrars, the Stamford-Norwalk Judicial District, Probate District PD-52, the Department of Public Health, the Secretary of the State, the State Library, and local historical institutions. This service does not hold government records and is not affiliated with any of those offices or courts.
2. Acceptable and Prohibited Uses
Use the site and any linked record source only for a lawful purpose. You may not use the service or information reached through it to:
- Stalk, surveil, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm another person
- Locate a person whose address is protected by an order or confidentiality program
- Commit identity theft, impersonation, fraud, or another unlawful act
- Make an FCRA-regulated decision involving credit, employment, tenant, or insurance matters
- Scrape, copy, or republish the site's content at scale
- Disrupt the site's operation, security, or linked services
Connecticut Penal Code Chapter 952 includes stalking and harassment provisions at CGS §§53a-181c, 53a-181d, 53a-181f, and 53a-183. CGS §52-571l provides a civil action for certain electronic disclosures of personally identifying information. A Secretary of the State voter-file request is limited to election-related, scholarly, journalistic, political, or governmental uses and prohibits harassment, marketing, sale, and reproduction.
3. FCRA Status
Darien Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency as that term is defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. The material here and any result supplied by a linked search tool are not consumer reports and may not be used to decide eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another purpose covered by the FCRA.
4. External Portals and Services
Links may lead to Darien government pages, RecordHub, Assessor and GIS tools, Connecticut court and Probate searches, state records portals, historical collections, or sponsored search services. Each outside service sets its own terms and privacy practices. Darien Residents Directory does not control or guarantee their content, availability, pricing, or handling of submitted information.
5. Disclaimers of Warranty
The site is supplied "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. No promise is made that a description, link, record reference, or portal result is accurate, complete, current, or available at the time it is used.
6. Liability Limits
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from use of this site or an outside resource linked from it, including an action taken from a record reference.
7. Your Responsibility for Misuse
You agree to indemnify and hold the operators harmless from claims, demands, losses, and reasonable attorneys' fees arising from your misuse of the site or breach of these Terms of Use.
8. Site Content and Copyright
The site's original writing, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Links to individual pages and short attributed quotations are permitted. Republishing complete pages or copying the material systematically is not permitted.

10. Suspension or Restriction
Access may be blocked or limited for a user who violates these terms, abuses the service, or threatens its security. This may occur at the operators' discretion and without advance notice.
11. Connecticut Law and Records Rules
Connecticut law governs these terms, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Requests for existing, non-exempt public records in Darien are subject to the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act, CGS §§1-200 through 1-242, especially §§1-210 through 1-212. The Act does not require an office to create a resident list or another record that it does not maintain.
State guidance describes prompt access, written denial generally within four business days, electronic copies when available, and maximum copy fees of 25 cents per page for state agencies and 50 cents per page for municipalities. Privacy and confidentiality rules can limit access, including voter privacy under CGS §9-50(d), public-employee residential-address protection under CGS §1-217, and birth-record restrictions under CGS §7-51. Separate court, vital, probate, police, and registry retention, sealing, and redaction rules also apply.
12. If a Provision Fails
If a court finds one part of these terms unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
